Changes in Policies Related to HIV Testing in VA Facilities

On August 17, 2009, VA transitioned from requiring written informed consent to oral informed consent for HIV testing. VA also no longer requires that patients receive scripted, standardized pre- and post-test counseling before and after HIV testing. The following documents help explain these new policies.
