Coccidioidomycosis: chest X ray with a miliary pattern suggesting fungal or mycobacterial disease

image of Coccidioidomycosis: chest X ray with a miliary pattern suggesting fungal or mycobacterial disease

Description

Chest radiograph of an HIV-infected patient, CD4 count < 50 cells/ µ L, demonstrating a miliary pattern that is suggestive of either mycobacterial or disseminated fungal disease (clinical information may help in assigning the relative probabilities). The diagnostic approach should evaluate both possibilities. The diagnosis in this patient was disseminated coccidioidomycosis.
