HLA B*5701

This test checks whether you have a certain gene that may predispose you (or make you more likely) to having an allergic reaction from one of the HIV medications (called abacavir). If you test positive for this gene, you should not be given abacavir. This test is usually done with your first set of lab tests, so that your providers know whether or not they can consider using the abacavir medication.
